the creative process

If you're new to commissioning creative work it might be helpful for you to know the creative process I follow for my clients.

Whether you need design or copywriting, the process is more or less the same; a framework that ensures your project starts, and progresses, smoothly. And helps you to know where we are at each stage of the process.

the brief

Every commission starts with a clear brief. I send my clients a one page briefing questionnaire so we both know exactly what they want, when they want it and who they want to talk to.

the creative work

From the agreed brief I research my client's industry, sector, customers and competitors. This ensures that the design and/or writing I do comes from an informed place and speaks to their customers in a way they'll hear.

the presentation

I prepare, and present, a full presentation document, showing the initial work, complete with explanatory text to support the copy I've written or the concepts I've designed. The number of concepts I present varies, depending on the project.

second/final presentation

From my client's comments and feedback, I prepare finished creative work from the chosen concept. Usually this is the final stage. Although, sometimes, there may be further small tweaks or agreed amendments.

delivery

Depending on the type of commission, my client receives their work complete and ready for them to use. This can be their new logo in all file formats, print-ready artwork, or complete copy. With logo design and branding I always prepare complete brand guidelines for my clients.
