There's a certain flow, a balance, that magazine design needs.

The cover should make you want to open the magazine. The content should smoothly take you on a journey; serious balanced with humourous, or essays balanced with biography. And that balance also needs to be apparent on every page, from the flow of the text to the balance of the images.
